Classic Arcade, Pinball and Console Collecting Gaming Community

Starting April 2009 at Coinopspace.com, you might be able to win a $200 gift card just for restoring your game! Game Stencils, This Old Game, Quarter Arcade and Video Game Parts have teamed up to offer $50 each as a prize to the best restoration over the course of the summer and fall. That’s $50 at each site that can be used on any item they sell!!!!

Rules

The contest will run from April 15th 2009 – September 30th 2009. In order to enter, all you need to do is start a new thread about your restoration project in the ‘Restoration Showcase’, or you can blog on Coinopspace.com about your progress. Either is fine. Photos are encouraged, and this is an international contest. You can have as many entries as you want, the more restorations the more you can better your chances. But the restoration must be finished by the deadline.

This is not about putting links in a thread to other websites, you need to generate original content exclusively at Coinopspace.com. This includes photos. Photos must be included in the forum post, not a link to an external website. If you have just started your project recently, drop us a line and we’ll see if you can be included. No double posting on your restoration, the thread has to originate on this website and be exclusive here.

Restoration Content Graphic

Come September, members will vote (worth 1 point a piece) on the best restoration as will Brian, Rich and Anthony from the respective participating websites. The votes will be weighted, aggregate member’s votes count 50% - Retail guys 50%.

1st Prize
  • $50 Gift Card - Quarterarcade.com
  • $50 Gift Card - Gamestencils.com
  • $50 Gift Card - Thisoldgame.com
  • $50 Gift Card - Videogameparts.com
  • 1 year subscription to Gameroom Magazine
  • A spotlight article of your restoration in Gameroom Magazine

If the winner already has a subscription to Gameroom Magazine, then the runner up in the voting will get the one year subscription.

Because this is such a great prize, we want to see original restorations, something interesting, something a little more challenging and off the beaten path. For that reason the following games are not eligible;

  • Donkey Kong Family (DK, Dk Jr., DK 3)
  • Q*Bert
  • Ms. Pac-man
  • Centipede
  • Galaga

Also, while Mame projects are eligible, know that only the most interesting MAME projects will have a better chance at winning. The more you have to come up with artwork that isn’t available (not just a CPO and marquee but matching sideart and bezel), or the more you have to track down hard to find parts the better.

Mame projects are eligible, but only the most interesting or original projects stand a chance at winning. This is a restoration contest after all.

  • Do not MAME a classic for this contest!
  • Scratch built based on a classic or generic cabinet (dynamo, fighters, etc) resurrection OK.
  • We've seen it all, do something new and exciting.

Extra credit. If you want to earn extra points, send us links to all of the threads you have started on different arcade forums where you have linked to your Coinopspace.com restoration. Each link is worth 1 point.

We'll talk a little bit about that in the next newsletter coming out soon.

So when will they announce the winner?

I started my D2K last year... Does it count? (just kidding). Not even sure if I'm going to have "anytime" to work on any restorations for the rest of the year. I hope I'm wrong.

I didn't list D2K, so it would only be fair if that was included.

What about D2K?

Strange... MAME is accepted but no pins? How do you "restore" a MAME cabinet BTW? Do you convert it back to the arcade machine it once was? :P

This is just for arcade games right now. If I can make inroads networking with pinball vendors, we'll do something similar with them. But I need introductions, warm and otherwise to some of these individuals.

Question #1 - Are pinball restorations accepted? Question #2 - I recently started restoring my Secret Service pinball... I've only completed the cabinet restoration, the playfield hasn't been touched as of yet.... am I too late?

This is great! It will get me off my butt and to work.

Thanks for pointing this out. I tend to use relative links, but didn't think about the effect on the feed...changed.
