Couldn't decided on a title so I thought Id take the Rocky and Bullwinkle approach.
Last weekends rescue mission: Save these cocktails from a fate far worse than death.
I was never a big fan of cocktails, the lack of art and limitations to screen size and orientation just never appealed to me. looking down on a screen to me is incredibly annoying maybe if there was a game that you were needing to look down at like out of a B-17 Bomber dropping bombs over Nazi Germany
I could maybe do that. But I just cant imagine playing say something like Tron on a cocktail with its lacking blacklight surrounding graphics and MCP backdrop or Space Invaders without its reflective mirrored image against a 3d moon and space backdrop and the list goes on.
So when this pile of cocktails popped up on CL 10 for $100 all or nothing a good deal for sure for someone Id think but it still wasn't enough to interest me. Most were Nintendos gutted and discarded carcasses like gazelles on the serengeti plains. Well after 6 months of their decent back to mother Earth I had an idea and worked out a deal to get them.

The plan was to build a couple of console cocktails. with the Gameroom running out of space for my classics collection I had been thinkin of getting a few of the classic consoles Atari 2600 and NES
I thought it would be a fun idea to make them self contained and model the graphics of the console itself to mimic that for the cocktail table just on a little larger scale cpos, glass and all. So these new pair of cocktails will all work on original console hardware not cheap emulations and will make alot of nifty modifications along the way.
So basically the CT table itself becomes the new console casing. Ill leave making things smaller to the Japaneze and cellphone companies : )
There was one CT keep inside and its a beauty, wood grain and solid wood construct.
Is a perfect canidate for the 2600 which will include a switchable pong console as well

Now before anyone starts in on blasphemy any and all graphics will be scanned and archived and once again TOG does its part saving the planet one game at a time ; )

Id rather have the software and graphics limitations of games to play over the dilemmas and complications of controls for say something like Mame or other multicades and dont have to worry about maintaince recapping the monitor, rebuilding powers supplys, etc. Just sit plug and play. Also theres a certain bit of nostaglia to playing these consoles as Im rediscovering.
I also just noticed in the COSP tag line it list consoles not sure where or to what extent that implies so maybe Jeff can point me in the right direction to post the progress of these transformations.
