King of Kong chat transcript now online at Coinopspace

Late late last night I was up following the Tigers game and took the opportunity to post the raw transcript from the Steve Wiebe chat from Coinopspace.com in April. I don’t know if there will eventually be a nice formatted version of the chat from the King of Kong, but I am hoping that at least [...]

Video of Owen Rubin and “Kermit” – Atari’s Robot Pet

Stumbled across this video tonight with Owen Rubin, creator of Major Havoc and a number of other famous Atari games, talking about ‘Kermit’ the electronic pet that was way ahead of its time. This video really doesn’t have any classic arcade information in it other than Owen’s general connection arcade lore, but there were [...]

Thanks for the kind words about my gameroom. The Han Solo in Carbonite was pulled from the original molds held in the Lucasfilm archives, and was numbered and limited in production. The original price for the unit was around $1,200 but I purchased mine in the secondary market. Once they "sold out", the prices went up a bit. I think that with shipping included I paid about $1,800 for it. I have a really nice Boba Fett costume that I need to hang on to a "posed" mannequin to stand guard next to it, but as you know, finding the time and a properly sized mannequin to do it RIGHT has kept me from doing it.

Over the years, I have had a BUNCH of games, but have only kept the nicest ones. Here in my office at work, I have a mostly restored Mad Planet and a Space Duel. In our detatched garage at home, I have a Daytona 2 and a Soul Edge jamma cabinet (my son wanted it). Games that I USED to have, but regret selling include: a Nichubitsu Crazy Climber, a Reactor, a nice Journey (with working tape player and original tape) and a duramold Blaster (although I didn't care much for the gameplay)... I miss the Journey the most.

Thanks Jeff - This is a great Ning site. I'm a small time collector in the Atlanta, GA area (currently 4 pins, a CC pitch & bat, and a non-working Pole Position). I will be sure to join the GA collector group.

Thanks, Jeff! I just realized that this website was kind of a "facebook" for coinop geeks like us! I never really checked it out before. Pretty cool!

Thanks Jeff for the warm welcome. I don't own any arcade games but I've always enjoyed playing them. I found out about this website through Twin Galaxies.Hopefully within the next couple of weeks things can slow down some and i can check out the site and get the full enjoyment here. Thanks again for the welcome and am glad to be here.

Steve Wiebe Creator Chat - Raw Transcript

It's been a few months coming, but here is the long chat transcript from the Steve Wiebe (King of Kong) chat in April. It was an amazing turnout, and next year we'll have to do another talk with Steve in the newer chat module. Here is the Steve Wiebe announcement post.

Steve was a really nice guy and was patient as we had a lot of members that wanted to gre… Continue

Russel 'Rusty' Dawe Creator Chat - Raw Transcript

As always, the live chat with a former Atari employee was a ton of fun. This is truly a great opportunity for collectors to meet the creators of their favorite games and ask them the questions they've always wanted to know. Rusty's chat was great because he so generously elaborated and a lot of cool information came out. Here is the 'original' transcript from the chat below. If you would like to see the 'nice' version o… Continue

The last open 'Game Day' at Luna City for awhile

Any immersed arcade game collector can tell you about Peter Hirschberg. Peter built a massive arcade, arguably one of the best in existence on his property in Linden, VA. Peter has taken tremendous amounts of time and cost to put on open 'Game Day's', where he opens up his arcade for the public to visit and rejuvenate their love of playing classic arcade games.

This year's Game Day took place on April 25th, and again Peter was donating the proceeds from the event to a close friend who was suffe… Continue

New mini documentary with Walter Day & Twin Galaxies

First we had King of Kong, a story that was built around the players who hold the best Donkey Kong scores in the world. The success of this against all odds story spawned enough interest to fuel another documentary named 'Chasing Ghosts', a 'where are they now' movie about every video game champion from the 80's who was on this Life magainze cover.

Who says the economy's in the crapper. Quantum and EDOT sell on eBay for big money.

Granted these are over a week old now, so if you were following either the Quantum or Environmental Discs of Tron on eBay this will be old news....

Quantum, item number 160327028839 sold by profile 'dogfacedgods' (The same guy who just sold that Tom McClinktock Quantum control panel overlay reproduction for $146.01) ended up with a winning bid of $2,234.00 out in Los Angeles, CA.

Here is a screenshot from the auction and some photos;… Continue

That is one darn awesome looking cocktail...I'm jealous, I wish I had that, especially for free. The photos felt drippy...thanks for showing. I thought you might have had some photos you took already when hauling...
Do they ask you any hard hitting, introspective questions ;)?
Was poking through more of the boxes last night and found this little item....might be nice to have around.
I can't believe you've never had anyone call you Mark, for how long you've been doing this... Are you going to post some photos?
I messaged him...but like these things go, never heard back and based on his location I wasn't overly surprised.
I just picked up and Exidy/ Centuri Targ cocktail. The artwork is pretty cool on this one. I need to find a 13 inch monitor for it to get it going again.
Mark Hooks joined Jeff Rothe's groupyesterday
All of Exidy's classics - Pepper, Cheyenne, Mouse Trap, Death Race, Spectar, Targ...any and all games (Venture has it's own group) by Exidy, members can join here to talk about them. Photo Credit: Unknown
For a gutted cabinet I'd usually think that's a little hight. However, that is a very nice looking cabinet. If you were in MI I might come and grab it with a monitor and make a 48 in 1. Just to far to drive.
