Yep - Netflix anywhere is dangerous as hell (huuuuuge timesuck). Try some of the news-readers. Flipboard is interesting and free, I prefer Pulse. Instapaper and Dropbox are used daily, and gamewise, Geometry Wars is a fave as well as Dragon's Lair (…

I won an iPad during a training meeting and brought it home. My wife tried it and after only ten minutes said "you wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday....". So I ended up buying one for her as well. I guess you could call it "buy one get…

John dropped off the ZVG setup this week. He had to substitute an older machine with ISA bus for the soundblaster ISA card in order to get sound. He gave me a quick run through of the setup on my VGA monitor and I will begin my experiments to hook t…

Interesting thing about Quantum artwork is it's somewhat universal. It's just got some cool swirls and shapes on it so it could even be used as artwork for non-quantum games. Not saying I would ever do that, but it might help sales alot from the mul…

I am willing to assist any way that I can. Keeping the artwork "Buzz" alive is important. Even if Archer does some limited printing and it has been a very long time since he has given his hectic schedule and may be a very long time again, there will…

I would be very interested in this myself. The artwork on these cabs is great. I would even be willing to put up pre-order money for this.

I did my very first cab many years ago with no experience and with white vinyl bought from a hardware store and have had no problems. If you buy good quality material and follow the tutorials you should be solid for sure. A smooth surface is key - a…

Does the replacement board play "blind", meaning you can play the game but can't see it on the screen? Next question is if you put the game in test mode, what happens? Do you hear the characteristic "vector buzz" through the speaker? Best, Bill

My kids are 25 and 23. I had them very young - a lot of my friends have kids your age now. I forget sometimes about that but get reminded when I visit them and see the little bundles of energy. I wish I could bottle that energy and take a drink in the mid-afternoon.

haha yes, I am more looking forward to it for the kid factor. With a 2 yo and a 8 week old it is a little hard to play a complete game.

Don't feel dumb. No such thing as a dumb question - only dumb answers. LMK if this works. If you have any more Q's just LMK. I'd call the freeze button the "bathroom" button so you can freeze the game for a bathroom break. :-)

Wait, I think I just figured it out, and am feeling a bit dumb now. 8/9 obviously correspond to the 8 switch while 7/10 correspond to the 7 switch. Wire each solder point to the toggle and voila.

Alright, I have the board out but can't make too much sense out of the schematics so I am not sure where to solder. Let me know a good time and I'll shoot a call your way. Thanks for the help!

You solder them on the underside of the board (sodler side). You'll be able to see SW8 ansd SW7 and the two pads for each (one on each side). Just strip and tin the wire ends, you'll only need a little metal. Add a little fresh solder to each switch pad on the pcb. Then heat the blob and add the pre-tinned wire. Voila!! Just make sure the dipswitches are off to use the toggles. If you want the wire to be more solid, you can glue them down with some hot melt glue (makes it easy to remove them later, just hit the glue with a heat gun or hair dryer.

Hi BIll,

OK, I have acquired the toggle switches and wiring that I need, but as I am inspecting my board I am not 100% where to solder my wires to on the board. Does the dip switch casing just pop off to reveal the pins underneath? I don't want to break anything:) All of my experience has been on newer boards and nothing in the arcade arena so I want to make sure I get it right. Here is an image of "my" board (borrowed from the internet): http://www.pinrepair.com/video/pacpcb1s.jpg, the light blue box at top right of this picture is my DIP settings casing that I am asking about. If I am wrong as to where to solder maybe we can use this image as a basis for you educating me.

Thanks!

Hi Bill!

I am going to order the parts I need for the freeze and rack advance updates, I'll probably need a little hand holding to make sure I am doing the right thing, would appreciate the help!

Thanks!
Justin
