FOR SALE: Asteroids PCB (IL)

Clean repair trade for sale fresh off my bench with extra work for reliability performed. Would make a nice spare or Plug and Play..... ALL four 24-pin ROM sockets and the 40-pin CPU socket have been replaced for added reliability. The original sockets Atari used were kinda crappy and after 30 years have become oxidized and lost their retention. Try holding on to something for over 30 years without a break. $150 shipped. My kids are 25 and 23. I had them very young - a lot of my friends have kids your age now. I forget sometimes about that but get reminded when I visit them and see the little bundles of energy. I wish I could bottle that energy and take a drink in the mid-afternoon.

haha yes, I am more looking forward to it for the kid factor. With a 2 yo and a 8 week old it is a little hard to play a complete game.

Don't feel dumb. No such thing as a dumb question - only dumb answers. LMK if this works. If you have any more Q's just LMK. I'd call the freeze button the "bathroom" button so you can freeze the game for a bathroom break. :-)

Wait, I think I just figured it out, and am feeling a bit dumb now. 8/9 obviously correspond to the 8 switch while 7/10 correspond to the 7 switch. Wire each solder point to the toggle and voila.

Alright, I have the board out but can't make too much sense out of the schematics so I am not sure where to solder. Let me know a good time and I'll shoot a call your way. Thanks for the help!

You solder them on the underside of the board (sodler side). You'll be able to see SW8 ansd SW7 and the two pads for each (one on each side). Just strip and tin the wire ends, you'll only need a little metal. Add a little fresh solder to each switch pad on the pcb. Then heat the blob and add the pre-tinned wire. Voila!! Just make sure the dipswitches are off to use the toggles. If you want the wire to be more solid, you can glue them down with some hot melt glue (makes it easy to remove them later, just hit the glue with a heat gun or hair dryer.

Hi BIll,

OK, I have acquired the toggle switches and wiring that I need, but as I am inspecting my board I am not 100% where to solder my wires to on the board. Does the dip switch casing just pop off to reveal the pins underneath? I don't want to break anything:) All of my experience has been on newer boards and nothing in the arcade arena so I want to make sure I get it right. Here is an image of "my" board (borrowed from the internet): http://www.pinrepair.com/video/pacpcb1s.jpg, the light blue box at top right of this picture is my DIP settings casing that I am asking about. If I am wrong as to where to solder maybe we can use this image as a basis for you educating me.

Thanks!

Hi Bill!

I am going to order the parts I need for the freeze and rack advance updates, I'll probably need a little hand holding to make sure I am doing the right thing, would appreciate the help!

Thanks!
Justin
