HELP! Qbert strategy

Ok...I am STUCK! I can get to about 35K points but once I get to the level where the blocks never 'lock' on their final color I am doomed. I can have 4 guys when I get to that level and then I just keep dying in a vain attempt to get all the platform colors the same...

Whats the strategy here?
