Now that the Q*bert / Q*bert Qubes group is nearing 30 members I'm thinking it's time to schedule the first official Q*bert high score competition.

So, first rule is that you should set your game to the following settings which I believe are the official Twin Galaxies (Tournament) settings and also the FACTORY DEFAULT.

3 Lives Per Game
Normal Difficulty
First Extra Life @ 8K
Extra Addition Life @ Every 14K

Dip Switch Settings:

1-3 = OFF
4 = OFF/ON [Upright/Cocktail]
5 = OFF/UNUSED
6 = OFF/ON [Kicker Off/On]
7-8 = OFF/UNUSED

So, here are the facts.

Date(s): February 13th thru February 15th (48 hours of fun)
Starting Time: 2-13-09 (Friday) @ 9:30 PM EST
Ending Time: 2-15-09 (Sunday) @ 9:30 PM EST
Who Can Participate: CoinOpSpace.com Members and Family Members

Submit Scores Before 10:30 PM EST on 2-15-09 to this thread. You MUST submit score with photo or your score will not counted. Only your highest score will be registered but you are more than welcome to submit all of them to show off your Q*bert skills. ONLY HIGH SCORES DURING THE COMPETITION CAN BE SUBMITTED. No way to prove it but please try and keep this a friendly competition and only submit your scores from this 48 hour time frame. :)

To upload your high score images click on "Add An Image" button.

Please encourage other collectors to join the group before or during (or even after) the competition. Even if there is only a couple hours left in the competition there is still plenty of time to submit a high score.

If anyone has input please state it now.

Thanks for any and all participation.

UPDATE!!!

Rich @ ThisOldGame.com contacted me the other day and offered up a One-Of-A-Kind Q*bert T-Shirt for the first prize. So, be sure to get your high score submitted for your chance to win!!!

Jen said she would give it a try and see if she can beat her current score.
We should just disqualify Jen for steeling our shirt. ;) However, hope she'll participate this weekend. Tronic, don't you have a high score?
I think I was able to make it around 20k when I tried on Qbert. So I let that be her game, I just keep it running for Jen. My high scores are in Tempest.
Anyone warming up yet? :)

This is the latest on Jen's score. She was able to beat her previous high score.

Hey Tronic -

That's an impressive sore. However, the contest is only for high scores made in the 48 hours starting about 6 minutes ago... However, I'm sure she can kick our buts between now and sunday even if she only does 1/2 that score. :)

I will be sure to update her high score on the normal high score chart.
Ooops I guess I didn't read the post closely enough. I thought it started at 5 for some reason.

We won't be able to participate then, we both have to leave town. I had her squeak a game in before we leave here in a few minutes.

I just informed her that it didn't start yet. she said,"It will be good for the others who want a chance at getting the T-shirt".
Is there some strategy to this game? I did very quick poking around, but didn't read anything...

Is it better to go up and down the very outsides?

There are what, like 30 guys in this group? But three scores? Do people actually play this game? Or do they just collect it and have it sit in the corner?

Tell your wife she kicks all of our buts... If you get back in time have her play a game or two.

I agree Jeff... Why do we have 30 guys and only three scores.

As far as strategies? Don't get caught. :) No really...

Jeff, I believe this is what you were looking for as far as strategy.

At least we have one score. I broke 30,000 this morning with my son talking the whole time. Not impressive but at this rate I'll post a photo shortly. :)
