Once again, the chat with Steve Wiebe on April 15th will be moderated. Please submit all questions that you have for Steve to this thread. First come first serve.

There is only one hour, so we will get through as many questions as is reasonably possible to make it enjoyable for all, but to thoroughly answer the questions as much as possible. I apologize if not all questions get asked.

Hello Mr. Wiebe. After watching the King of Kong, I was inspired to try and set my own record on Twin Galaxies site. The game I chose was Donkey Kong Jr. (the Virtual Console Version). I am currently at 134,000 points and need only 25,000 to set the record, but the 5th set (of the 4 stages) is giving me some trouble. I understand that you play the arcade version, but I was wondering if you could give me any tips. If you could that would be much obliged and would help me on my way to reaching the top.

Good Luck this June,
Nick

Steve, just curious... When your child was asking for you to "wipe his but" while playing DK... Did your wife give you any grief for not attending to your kids needs first? haa haa. I only ask because I know my wife wouldn't be to happy with me. :)

Steve,

Have you ever considered going after the MAME score for Donkey Kong?
Also I watched a clip on the web where you spoke about having a Donkey Kong machine and selling it, then you had to buy a new one. Is that the Donkey Kong Junior you have now, and how much did it cost? It looks like its in really good shape, and I cant find a Donkey Kong to save my life!

Have you ever been playing a game for awhile and got on a roll only to have something unforeseen happen like the power going out or anything else along those lines?

Mr. Wiebe,
I did not know of you before king of kong but after seeing the movie it is great to see a regular guy.ie isn't a hermit or one of the many people other than you featured in the movie. Some of them were just plain strange or tools. As for the question did you always know you had this talent or did it come to you later in life. Thank you.Chris Cole

Steve,

I just wanted to submit a comment ... hopefully you'll get to read this.

As a father myself I can honestly say we've already achieved our greatest success in life. Bringing a life into this world and raising them, with a huge amount of help from our wives, is our highest "score" to date. On top of that, you are a teacher, a musical wizard and kick mucho butt on Donkey Kong. Life will always present its challenges and its challengers, but don't ever think you are not good enough... not even for a second. High five man!

Regards,
Brett

Steve, is your interest in Donkey Kong the extent of your experience with classic arcade games, or are you a general enthusiast in many of the 1980's classics like the rest of us? Do you collect other classics or have a personal arcade?

If you had to pick a movie from the fabulous 80's arcade archives, which would it be? TRON? The Wizard? War Games? or Cloack & Dagger?

Steve,

The movie was great and it really made anyone w/ a heart feel for how you were treated by the 'Mitchell crew'. You were a stand-up guy and took the high road. Do you find any of those guys still handing out bad attitudes or have they given you the respect you deserve?

You were 10x the player (and person) than your competitor (and groupies) were shown to be.

Does it ever feel like Billy is just pulling tapes that he recorded from a while ago?
If so... Will it ever end? I smell a public head to head competition. :)

Steve -

Can you share your approach to DK Jr.? Any general tips that you can share? I would also like to second the suggestion for a tip blog. I just wish that I had your quick reflexes :)

Thanks for your time tonight!

Kyle

Have you played much DK on MAME, or a 39 in 1 or 60 in 1 board. If so, do you find them to be different in any ways? Would you consider a high score achieved on MAME Donkey Kong just the same as the same score on an original Nintendo Donkey Kong?

Thanks,

Chris
