I've got a (nearly) fully-working Gauntlet II cabinet, but there's no voice. It's just not the same when I'm not being told that "Wizard needs food badly!" Could I have a bad ROM on there, or do I need to Ebay myself a whole new PCB?

I had the same problem in my Gauntlet. The TMS5220 IC is the speech chip on my Gauntlet -- probably the same as in Gauntlet II, check the schematics for your game. I used a logic probe to make sure the TMS5220 was receiving data on its inputs, which it was. Then, I ordered a TMS5220 from Bob Roberts, replaced it, and got my "Oof!" back.

I had the same thought.

It will be the same chip between G1 and G2, the boardsets are identical; it's just a software upgrade.

Yeah, I went looking for a Gauntlet II manual and only found Gauntlet, got frustrated, dug around and found my manual: Gauntlet. (-: Thanks for the help. I'll email the Bob!

Doesn't gauntlet use a separate audio amp board? Could there be a problem with that instead of the main PCB?

No, Gauntlet's auxiliary amp board had two amps on it, one for the left channel, one for the right. If one of those were blown, you'd just get no sound at all out of the corresponding speaker. If they were both blown, you'd get no sound at all. Sounds working minus speech = PCB problem.

I popped the chip out to find a bent pin. Straightened it, reinserted, and still no voices. The hard part: Bob's out of them. Oh well. There's a full PCB on Ebay right now. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Bob's not the only game in town. There are a few guys out there who also sell chips and cater to the collector market.

Wow all reputable sources are out of these (Bob, Arcade Components). I have some in stock for $10 each.

There is a vendor that does have them cheaper but I advise against buying there (deal with at your own risk: Arcade Chips
.
