Check out these pictures of the GCC Labs back in 1983/84. These guys developed Super Missile Attack, Ms. PacMan, Quantum, Foodfight, Nightmare, the 7800 Console and lots of other stuff.

I have Nightmare running, and it will be at CAX 2010.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Wow wow wow!

This is awesome. Thanks for posting Scott.

Kind of hard to follow the photos with the descriptions...but eventually I figured out which photo was for the game 'Nightmare'.

So what is the story on this page? Has this made the rounds before in the past years? Or did you just come across this? Or you knew about it and just decided to share it tonight? Looks like the former employees have been commenting for quite some time here on this information...
I found this a couple months ago. I had not seen it before that. As you can see from the other pictures, the controls they are using for the game are from a Tron machine. I think they were trying to create a kit game for all the Tron machines out there. The pictures are hard to follow, because the captions are not next to the pictures. The permalinks, in the descriptions will take you to the correct pictures though.

Thanks Scott for posting that link! I had seen that site before but I lost the link and it never came up when I searched. I see Steven Hertz made a comment on that group picture with the Quantum back in 2005 actually.

You have to love the fire pole and the fact that they went to court to override the building inspector to keep it. :-) It seems like they were a pretty tight-knit group.

And I am looking VERY forward to checking out Nightmare. I did see a few screen shots you posted of it before, but I know nothing of the game play. Thanks again. I hope all is well up there.
Nice Scott!! As I've said previously ... love reading up on the classic history of these babies and the people associated with.

Bring it!
I love to see old photos like this from the inside workings of arcade history.
Wow! Very cool. I can't wait to try Nightmare next July.
Did you ever happen to deal with anyone who worked on Food Fight?

Apparently there was some legal action over splat and food fight, and I would like to hear more of the story.

Congrats on the nightmare, it's always cool to see the atari stuff.
Sorry, I have not heard anything about that. We are trying to hook up a session with one of the GCC guys for CAX 2010. Still trying to coordinate schedules.

I'm hoping to make it to CAX this year, i'll have to check it out.

I've only heard the rumors from the williams side of the story, which is that atari stole the name and concept from williams, then out lawyer-ed them. I've always wanted to hear more of the story, because splat is such an odd ball williams "non-release"
At GCC I was the developer of the Food Fight 7800 adaptation, and I have never heard of splat. So I highly doubt that we ripped it off. (I never heard of a lawsuit either so maybe I was just out of the loop.) Jonathan Hurd was the creator of Food Fight arcade, perhaps he could help. Nowadays when I show people Food Fight they often think it is Burger Time, which I also never had heard of until after Food Fight was done.
