Doing some quick straightening up in the garage tonight getting ready for another restoration (or two) and noticed that my latest addition (Stern Frenzy) has metal tag on it. Upon closer inspection it says "Prop Number 4043". Now I'm starting to wonder about the history of the game. I contacted Jeff Rothe because the collector in which I purchased the game from bought it from Jeff and he said he purchased the game from an auction. Unfortunately, that's where my search ends at this time. Just would love to know if my Frenzy might of been featured in a famous 80's film or TV show. However, unless I could contact Stern's to find out who originally purchased my game chases are I'll probably never know.

Anyone else have a game that may be famous or not so famous?

As far as i know, none of my collection has been used for movies or tv series. I would guess your Frenzy tag number is probably just a tracking number for auction purposes. I cant think of one movie that had Frenzy in it ???
I have one as well on my space invaders deluxe. I do believe it is a property number tag though for the arcade or route owner and not like you suggested a movie prop.
I agree Shane... But based on it being a stamped metal tag on it.

Maybe your right. I know my Q*bert had a medical inventory tag on it. Just don't think I'd want my doctor doing surgery on me after playing hours of Q*bert!!!
Some large chain arcades also used metal inventory tags.
My Mr. Do! had a plastic inventory tag on it. I think it was strictly for accounting. Easier to use a number to ID a game vs. actually typing in the game name. While there have been plenty of games from movie prop houses, I think they are well advertised when sold and usually it happens in CA...close to the source. Here's my tag:

Mine actually says "Prop Number" so it appears as if it might of been a prop.
If I'm not mistaken, prop = property just to save a few characters on the printing. Most of the actual prop houses used tags with their name and then an ID number. A sort of advertisement of where the prop came from.

Well... completely by accident I happened upon "The Almost Complete Guide to Video Arcade Games in Movies" page. According to this, there was a Frenzy in an arcade scene in War Games! :-)

Perhaps some research on War Games could tell you if the Arcade was a real arcade, or perhaps an arcade staged for filming?

Wouldn't that be something. I can put it right next to my Galaga 60 in 1 with the wargames headers and do a "As Seen In WarGames" header for Frenzy. :)

I have a numbered metal tag nailed on the back of one of my Gun Fight games. Never thought anything of it. I know its not Midway's standard of serializing the game because it conflicts with the normal wood stamping number pressed into the backside.
Here is the arcade scene in War Games.
